A Modern Home for Practice

In Vancouver, the Buddhist Student Residence & Advancement Centre is a new five-storey mixed-use building created as a purpose-built home for Buddhist students and an extension of the Gold Buddha Monastery across the street. Planned for an 8,700 sq. ft. C-3A site currently used as surface pay parking, the project will deliver 37 studio residences with amenities and underground parking, anchored by spaces that support learning, wellness, and daily practice.

Level 1 includes a main lobby, administration office with a room for Traditional Chinese Medicine, and a vegetarian canteen where residents share meals as part of the advancement program. Levels 2–4 provide 35 student studios plus study and contemplation space, while Level 5 adds two monastic units, an indoor rooftop amenity area, and a south-facing terrace. The rooftop also integrates solar panels and three retractable skylights that help enclose the Level 4 courtyard year-round, bringing in natural light and supporting energy savings.
